Making Space for a Daily Practice: Welcoming Lisa Daria Kennedy to The Gallery at Noted

Making Space for a Daily Practice: Welcoming Lisa Daria Kennedy to The Gallery at Noted

This April, The Gallery at Noted welcomes local artist Lisa Daria Kennedy—whose work is rooted not just in what she creates, but in how consistently she creates it.

At the center of Lisa’s practice is a simple but powerful idea: showing up daily. Her work reflects a commitment to making time for creativity, even in small, quiet ways. It’s a rhythm that feels especially relevant in a world where time often feels limited and attention is constantly pulled elsewhere.

At age 29, I was diagnosed with Non- Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After six rounds of chemotherapy, one month of radiation, and now, years of monitoring to make sure I’m still cancer free, my perspective has changed. After all I had been through, the idea of starting an artistic project and failing was terrifying. I had a moment of clarity and pared the creative process down to this one idea - show up for the job.  I started showing up for my new job in 2009 and without excuse I wake up every day at five and I paint.

Her approach aligns closely with a belief we hold at Noted—that creativity doesn’t require perfection or formal training. It simply requires space. Lisa comments, "Noted has created a community hub, a space to gather centered around creative practices, which supports my own are of focus called Embrace the Practice,' which centers on the importance of art as every day human practice."

With the launch of The Gallery at Noted, we set out to create more than a place to display art. We wanted to build an environment where creativity feels accessible, visible, and part of everyday life. Kennedy’s work embodies that intention. Her daily practice serves as a reminder that creativity isn’t something reserved for special occasions—it’s something that can be integrated into how we live.

There’s also a growing awareness around the role creativity plays in our overall well-being. Studies continue to show that engaging in creative activities—whether it’s painting, writing, or working with your hands—can reduce stress, improve focus, and support mental health. But beyond the research, there’s a more intuitive truth: creating something, no matter how small, helps us slow down and reconnect.

Kennedy’s work invites that pause. It reflects the value of consistency over intensity, and presence over perfection.

In The Gallery at Noted, we’re proud to highlight local artists like Lisa who not only create meaningful work, but also inspire others to consider what a creative practice might look like in their own lives. As Kennedy’s work comes into the space this April, we invite you to experience it in person—and to consider what it might look like to make space for creativity in your own routine.

The Gallery at Noted is an ongoing artist series dedicated to showcasing creatives within our Hingham space. Designed to blur the line between gallery and everyday living, the series invites artists to share their work in an environment where it can be experienced as part of the home. Rooted in our belief in making space for creativity, each installation creates an opportunity for connection between artist, community, and place.

Artwork is available for purchase in-store, with select pieces available for inquiry and shipping.
